I am quite confused as to Hitler’s logic behind his flowery words, epic notions (of himself), and overall drama. Then I realized, only Hitler could denounce logic and make an argument that an entire country would follow.
From Hitler’s portrayal of Jews and Marxism, he describes them as devils, generalizing to the point where every Jew is the same Jew, embodied in human form, and sent to specifically corrupt the German society (before moving on to dominating the world, of course). What kind of motivation would the Jew have? Other than the pleasure of power, which is, as Jonah said in a previous comment, what Hitler himself is seeking. Ah.
Yet they are not people, but the Devil himself. Hitler is very clever in portraying his scapegoat this way, referring always to “the Jew”, like “the Devil”. The Devil draws you in and only by your choice. So don’t follow that manipulative bastard and destroy him! “...no one need be surprised if among our people the personification of the devil as the symbol of all evil assumes the living shape of the Jew.” (324)
“All great cultures of the past perished only because the originally creative race died out from blood poisoning.” (289) A stand-alone sentence in a paragraph all on its own, one Hitler specifically chose to highlight. “For a racially pure people which is conscious of its blood can never be enslaved by the Jew.” (325)
“The Jew has always been a people with definite racial characteristics and never a religion; only in order to get ahead he early sought for a means which could distract unpleasant attention from his person.” He strikes a fear that we (the pure, innocent German race of his time) will become dominated by “the Jew”, which logically implies that “the Jew” is stronger. No, the Jew is only stronger if we let him be, if he corrupts the “purity” of the German race.
Which brings me to the topic of “purity”. That word is so broad that my Writing the Essay teacher specifically told me that I could not write about it and to avoid it. But please, humor me while I make a logical argument, beginning with the self-evident statement: “there is no such thing as something ‘pure’ ”. The opposite word of “pure” would be “corrupt”, and there is no word in between.
If the German race, represented by the color white, were to mix with just a one drop of black, the whiteness would be gray, correct? It is no longer completely white, no longer “pure”. It would be “corrupted”. In that sense, the maintenance of the purity of the German race can only be achieved through isolating the German race, meaning that every other race is “corrupt”. Hitler himself is advocating what he says “the Jew” is doing, in a far worse way: specifically exterminate one ethnic group before moving on to dominating the world.
